The Total Look: The Creative Collaboration Between Rudi Gernreich, Peggy Moffitt and William Claxton
Cincinnati Art Museum, February 28, 2015 to May 24, 2015
Known by most for designing the topless bathing suit in 1964, Rudi Gernreich was one of the most original and prophetic fashion designers of the twentieth century. His minimalist knit garments, executed in psychedelic colors and geometric patterns, are visually striking. But Gernreich’s clothes were more than fashion. They were intended to free women’s bodies. All the garments in the exhibition are from the collection of Peggy Moffitt, the designer’s primary model and muse. The exhibition includes photographs of Moffitt in Gernreich’s designs and the first fashion video.
